Neon Lamp Electrode

Neon lamps are a type of cold-cathode gas discharge light source composed of sealed glass tubes filled with low-pressure neon or other rare gases, with electrodes mounted at both ends of the tube. When a sufficiently high voltage is applied across the electrodes, the gas inside the tube becomes ionized and emits visible light, the color of which depends on the specific gas used. The electrodes play a fundamental role in the discharge process by emitting electrons and collecting both electrons and positive ions, thereby sustaining stable illumination. To endure continuous ion bombardment and elevated operating temperatures while maintaining efficient electron emission, neon lamp electrodes are manufactured from materials with high melting points and strong resistance to erosion. In typical designs, the spring and rod components of the electrode are made of pure tungsten, providing durability, stable electrical performance, and long service life in neon lighting systems.
